storage for kids' stuff

My kids are pretty spaced out in age. I have two teenage boys, a 7 year old boy and a sweet toddler for a girl. I spend a small fortune buying the kids the things that they want so I want to be sure to get as much use out of it all as possible. My blog is all about using a storage unit to keep things around the house organized and keep your kids interested in the toys that you have spent your money on. You will find tips for storing clothes to be handed down to the younger kids and so much more.

How To Pack Patio Furniture For Your Next Move

Blog

When it comes to packing for a move, you probably already know how to prepare clothing, books, and other indoor items. Packing patio furniture, on the other hand, can be more of a challenge. Here are a few things to consider before you begin packing your outdoor furniture for a move.

Inspect For Damage

Outdoor furniture can become damaged over time, even if it's built to withstand the elements. Woven wicker chairs and tables can develop holes after repeated use, while metal furniture can begin to rust and corrode. Look for signs of structural damage in the furniture frames, and inspect cushions and pillows for signs of mold and mildew. Items that are damaged can be thrown away instead of packed away.

Clean Everything Before Packing

Cleaning your patio furniture can provide a number of benefits. It reduces the chances of transferring dirt onto other items in your moving truck, and it helps ensure that your items are ready for use as soon as they are unloaded after arriving at your new home. Another benefit is that it gives you a chance to remove any insects or other pests that might have made themselves at home in your furniture. For example, bees, spiders, and other insects can hide in the metal tubes that make up your chair and table legs. Cleaning out the hollow metal parts of your furniture can wash away these pests and prevent them from moving with you. If you suspect bees or wasps are hiding inside, be sure to clean your furnishings after dark when they are less active.

Disassemble As Much As Possible

To save space in the moving truck, disassemble any items that can be broken down. Bundle chair legs together with plastic ties or heavy-duty tape, and wrap each bundle in cushion wrap for added protection. Use large sheets of cushion wrap to protect glass tabletops, and place moving blankets around them for added protection. If you have a patio umbrella, be sure to use a strap or cover to secure it closed before loading it onto the moving truck.

Use Vacuum-Sealer Bags

You can save space when packing away outdoor cushions and pillows by using vacuum-sealer bags. By removing the air from each bag, you can reduce how much room the pillows take up in a moving box. Place each bag in a clearly labeled box or container, and use the bags as cushions when packing away planters or other outdoor decor pieces. If you don't feel comfortable disassembling and packing your outdoor furniture, ask your local moving company if it provides packing services. The movers can prepare and pack your outdoor items so you don't have to.
